\u201cThe majority claims to see no evidence that race played any role in the Haiti decision. But the evidence is there, plain to see, in the president\u2019s statements, which the majority (and for that matter, his own lawyers) cannot even bear to repeat.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The president\u2019s allies on the Supreme Court have had to jump through some hoops to justify their decisions supporting his reckless and discriminatory policies. But Justice Samuel Alito\u2019s claim not to see racism in the effort to end Temporary Protected Status for Haitians defies belief.<\/p>\n

As Justice Kagan noted in her dissent, even the president\u2019s own lawyers avoided repeating his shocking slur against Haiti and other predominantly Black nations when he demanded, \u201cTake them out.\u201d But even more telling than the slur was the response in the room: \u201cBecause if you do, it will be obvious why.\u201d<\/p>\n
