But houses of worship can provide resources for those experiencing mental health challenges\u00a0\u2014\u00a0even if\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0not religious.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Learn\u00a0more about AFSP\u2019s resources and programs that support marginalized communities\u00a0by\u00a0visiting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/afsp.org\/supporting-diverse-communities\/\">afsp.org\/supporting-diverse-communities\/<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/afsp.org\/the-upright\/\">afsp.org\/the-upright<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Suicide in Communities of Color<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>While the national suicide rate has decreased between 2022 and 2024 (the latest year with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/afsp.org\/suicide-statistics\/\">updated CDC data<\/a>) and overall youth rates have decreased between 2021and 2024,\u00a0particular communities\u00a0and groups noted higher suicide and attempt rates than their counterparts:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Suicide rates among\u00a0Black\u00a0individuals increased steadily from 7.0 to 8.7 per 100,000 between 2018 and 2023 (a 24.3% increase), followed by a slight decrease to 8.4 per 100,000 (3.4% decrease) from 2023 to 2024.<\/li>\n<li>In 2025,\u00a0LGBTQ+ young people of color\u00a0attempted suicide at higher rates than their White peers, and\u00a0nearly a\u00a0third (32%) experienced racial or ethnic discrimination, according to the Trevor Project\u2019s latest\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrevorproject.org\/survey-2025\/\">survey<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>From 2023 to 2024,\u00a0Asian Americans\u00a0saw the largest rate increase by racial group, rising from 6.3 to 6.8 per 100,000.<\/li>\n<li>In 2024, among females,\u00a0American Indian\/Alaska Native women\u00a0had the highest suicide rate at 6.4 per 100,000.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>This data strengthens AFSP\u2019s understanding\u00a0of suicide across populations and informs its programs, research, and advocacy efforts.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>###<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/afsp.org\/\">The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention<\/a>\u00a0is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide, including those who have experienced a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.afsp.org\/loss\">loss<\/a>.
