{"id":5375,"date":"2023-09-01T07:54:15","date_gmt":"2023-09-01T07:54:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africanamericanvoice.net\/?p=5375"},"modified":"2023-09-06T08:02:15","modified_gmt":"2023-09-06T08:02:15","slug":"worldcoins-iris-scanning-technology-raises-alarms-in-kenya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africanamericanvoice.net\/?p=5375","title":{"rendered":"Worldcoin\u2019s Iris Scanning Technology Raises Alarms In Kenya"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Lennox Kalifungwa<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kenyan government halted operations of Worldcoin (CRYPTO: WLD), a crypto project co-founded by Sam Altman, due to concerns over data privacy and public safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Worldcoin, which has already registered hundreds of thousands of customers in the country, is currently under investigation by the country\u2019s security, financial services, and data protection agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of the Interior and National Administration in Kenya issued a statement on Aug. 2, expressing concerns about Worldcoin\u2019s activities, specifically its approach to digital identity, which involves the use of iris-scanning technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Government is concerned by the ongoing activities of an organization calling itself \u2018WORLD COIN\u2019 which is involved in the registration of citizens through the collection of eyeball\/iris data,\u201d\u00a0said the Cabinet Secretary for the Interior and National Administration, Kithure Kindiki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government has suspended Worldcoin from operating within the country until the relevant public agencies can certify that there are no risks to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Appropriate action would be taken against any individual or entity that aids, abets, or is otherwise connected with the activities described, the government warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Worldcoin uses iris scanning to verify users\u2019 identities.
