LOUIS &#8211;\u00a0Africans Rising Together\u00a02063\u00a0(ART\u00a02063) is pleased to announce the selection of honorary chairs for its annual Walkathon commemorating Juneteenth and National Caribbean Heritage Month. They symbolize the pivotal role of African Americans in the historical and contemporary defense of democracy and justice.<\/p>\n<p>ART 2063 will honor Missouri&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>U.S.\u00a0Congresswoman Cori Bush<\/strong>\u00a0as the\u00a0<strong>Mother of Democracy<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0St. Louis City&#8217;s first African American female\u00a0<strong>Circuit Attorney, Kim Gardner<\/strong>,\u00a0as\u00a0<strong>Mother of Justice.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. James Tucker,<\/strong>\u00a0President of Africans Rising Together 2063, said,\u00a0<em>&#8220;We are privileged to have such distinguished leaders as our honorary chairs. Each co-chair has\u00a0a\u00a0solid record of achievements in their respective fields, grassroots credibility, and a proven commitment to advancing democracy, justice, and equality for all people.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The Juneteenth Walkathon will\u00a0take place\u00a0at Forest Park, Cricket Field\u00a0in St. Louis, Missouri,\u00a0on\u00a0<strong>Saturday, June 18, 2022<\/strong>.\u00a0The\u00a0time of the 1K and 5K Walks\u00a0<strong>7:00 to 9:00 a.m.,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0then from\u00a0<strong>9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,<\/strong>\u00a0there\u00a0will be festivities and entertainment, including a children&#8217;s village, including Gospel music,\u00a0Soul and African\u00a0food, and\u00a0a variety of\u00a0vendors. There will also be a Noon Day Prayer for People of African Descent and a Walk Through History featuring outstanding African Americans and Caribbean Americans who have made\u00a0the United States\u00a0more innovative and prosperous.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0commemoration of Juneteenth\u00a0is the result of the work begun by the late Dr. Ronald V. Myers Sr, MD, which culminated in Juneteenth National Independence Day\u00a0becoming\u00a0a federal holiday\u00a0on June 17,\u00a02021.\u00a0The ART 2063&#8217;s event\u00a0provides a unique opportunity for the local community to learn about and acknowledge the many achievements of people of African descent who have contributed significantly to\u00a0this\u00a0nation&#8217;s development\u00a0and wealth.<\/p>\n<p>There is still time for participants\u00a0to\u00a0join by\u00a0registering\u00a0at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/a-walk-for-democracy-and-justice-tickets-327525205707\">Eventbrite Registration<\/a>,\u00a0www.ART2063.org, or\u00a0onsite for $18.65.
