ORANGE, Calif.<\/span>,\u00a0Feb. 2, 2022<\/span><\/span>\u00a0\/PRNewswire\/ —\u00a0\u00a0In the 18 months\u00a0between\u00a0February 2020<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0August 2021<\/span>, Black-owned businesses increased by almost 40 percent<\/i><\/b>.\u00a0 This statistic is even more astounding when you realize that there was a slight drop in the number of white and Asian-owned businesses. MerchantMaverick.com<\/a><\/b>, the business product comparison site for small business owners, discovered that the Mid-Atlantic is particularly ripe for Black entrepreneurship, with\u00a0Virginia<\/span>,\u00a0Maryland<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Delaware<\/span>\u00a0all appearing in the top five slots. The South also has an unusually good business environment for Black businesses.\u00a0Ohio<\/span>\u00a0is the only state in the top ten located in the North, and it comes in at number 7.<\/p>\n

Of course, there are still obstacles. Only 2.3 percent of the employer businesses in the U.S. are Black owned even though African Americans make up over 14 percent of the population.<\/p>\n
