Included in the Grant will be opportunities to also\u00a0<b>apply metadata and licensing opportunities<\/b>\u00a0for the winning HBCU&#8217;s existing digitized libraries.<\/p>\n<p>Grant judge,\u00a0<b>Aba Blankson, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, NAACP<\/b>\u00a0<b>said<\/b>\u00a0&#8220;Black history is American history. While some of that history is known, too much is still hidden. Our HBCUs hold precious and treasured experiences, stories, images, and artifacts. We are excited to participate in this important initiative to preserve and strengthen the ability to amplify our collective story.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Grant recipients will\u00a0<b>retain all copyright for their visual assets<\/b>\u00a0and once digitized, the historical content will be placed in a\u00a0<b>newly created stand-alone photo collection<\/b>\u00a0called the &#8220;<b><i>HBCU Photo Collection<\/i><\/b>&#8221; and will be available for licensing on the Getty Images platform, which includes and owns of one of the largest\u202fprivately owned\u202fhistorical photo archives in the world.<\/p>\n<p>All royalties from the images that are preserved through the Grants are funnelled back into impact programs:\u00a0<b>Fifty percent<\/b>\u00a0will go to Grant recipients, who will retain all copyright of the visual assets;\u00a0<b>thirty percent<\/b>\u00a0of\u00a0royalties will\u00a0be used for a\u00a0financial donation to a scholarship fund focused on furthering the education of students at HBCUs; and\u00a0<b>twenty percent<\/b>\u00a0will be\u00a0reinvested to\u00a0fund the\u00a0<b>Getty Images Photo Archive Grants for HBCUs<\/b>\u00a0each year.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to being available to license on the Getty Images platform, the\u00a0<b><i>HBCU Photo Collection<\/i><\/b>\u00a0will also be made available as part of\u00a0<b>Getty Images&#8217; content donation initiative<\/b>\u00a0for non-commercial use free of charge in support of\u00a0<b>learning about and reflecting on Black history for Black storytellers and not-for profits<\/b>\u00a0as part of the\u00a0<i><a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3194782-1&amp;h=254856368&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fpress.gettyimages.com%2Ffka-twigs%2F&amp;a=Getty+Images+Black+History+%26+Culture+Collection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Getty Images Black History &amp; Culture Collection<\/a><\/i>\u00a0launching later in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Grant judge,\u00a0<b>Dr. Tukufu Zuberi, Lasry Family Professor of Race Relations, and Professor of Sociology and Africana Studies, University of Pennsylvani<\/b>a\u00a0<b>said,<\/b>\u00a0&#8220;Getty Images is one of the main sources for imagery. Historically Black Colleges and University have archives of some of the most important images related to Black Lives.
